Archie Gumede, one of the three co-presidents of the UDF (and one of the accused in the Treason Trial in 1956-1960), explains the meaning of the United Democratic Front being a "united front." He also emphasizes the UDF's opposition to government reforms of apartheid contained in the new constitution (i.e., the Tricameral Parliament) and the Koornhof bills (regarding new pass laws and new local authorities in African townships).
