The story of Eleanor Msolo gives a human picture of the impact of the pass laws designed to keep "superfluous" Africans out of towns. Unable to provide documents showing that she could legally live in Paarl, Mrs. Msolo was sentenced to go to the Transkei or be imprisoned, even though her husband and children could remain in town.
