Nelson Mandela analyzed how land and tax policies had been used to force people to leave rural areas and become migrant laborers in the gold mines. He also described early examples of the National Party pressuring the Transkeian general council (known as the Bunga) to carry out National Party policies, leading to “independence” in 1976. (
