The Committee to Oppose Bank Loans to South Africa encouraged activists in many cities during the 1970s and early 1980s to oppose U.S. banks lending to South Africa. At this demonstration in New York, community activists protesting Citibank’s lending policy toward South Africa included Jack Friedland, a member of Local 64 of the Fur, Leather and Machine Workers Joint Board.
