Shireen Brown describes the experience of being a "statement taker" for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Statement takers were the first people who listened to the 22,000 victims who came forward.
Shireen Brown was a “statement taker” for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC). In this capacity, she was one of the people who was first to hear from those people who approached the TRC to speak about violations of human rights that they had experienced. She talks about the difficulty of listening to horrendous stories that people told, sometimes listening the 59 people in one day without a break.
